When technology turns dangerous: Cybertruck crashes in California

On Behalf of | Nov 13, 2025 | Motor Vehicle Accidnt

Tesla’s Cybertrucks are now on Bay Area roads and their numbers are increasing. Tesla’s vehicles, to include the Cybertrucks, have extensive flaws and raise unique issues when their vehicles are involved in collisions. The Cybertruck is impressive when it comes to design and performance, but its massive weight and unique frame also make it more dangerous in case of collision.

Why are Cybertruck collisions different?

The Cybertruck’s stainless-steel body is tougher than most vehicles. This design may provide greater protection for Cybertruck occupants while causing more severe injuries to others involved in such a collision. Depending on the nature of the crash, its weight and build mean smaller cars, motorcycles, bikes and even pedestrians may not stand a chance. Even its heavy battery pack alone can cause serious or catastrophic injuries.

Manufacturers create vehicles designed to protect the passengers inside; however, they often do a poor job designing cars to minimize carnage they might cause. The same is true for Tesla’s Cybertruck. Common Cybertruck-related crashes involve:

  • Sudden acceleration or braking errors
  • Poor visibility due to the truck’s height and shape, with its adjustable air suspension capable of raising it to 76.6 inches
  • Overconfidence in Tesla’s Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (FSD) mode
  • Distracted driving or speeding on Bay Area freeways

When these crashes happen, victims may face long-term injuries, expensive medical bills and complex legal arguments if the truck’s technology is involved.

Who is liable in a Cybertruck accident?

In an ideal world, liability would be straightforward, but that is rarely the case in these collisions. Even though the driver might be at fault, Tesla could share or perhaps have exclusive responsibility if the vehicle’s systems malfunctioned while it was on autopilot or there is other problem with inherent design of the Cybertruck leading to collision. In certain cases, software updates, sensor errors or design flaws have contributed to crashes. Determining who is responsible often requires a detailed investigation and professional testimony from qualified witnesses.

What to do after a Cybertruck crash

If you are injured in a collision with a Cybertruck, call 911 and get medical attention right away. If you can, document the scene and take photos of the damage. Get the contact information of witnesses on the scene or secure CCTV footage from nearby cameras. If you have a dashcam, you should save the recording as soon as possible. Never share details with anyone until you have talked to your car accident lawyer. If insurers ask to record your statement, tell them you will only do so with your attorney present.

Protect your rights after a collision

New technology should not put your safety at risk. If a Cybertruck crash left you injured, a skilled attorney can help you uncover what caused the accident, hold the right parties accountable and pursue the compensation you deserve.
